LABORATORY MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST

Black River Memorial Hospital has an immediate opening for a Medical Technologist in our Lab department.  This is a full time, benefited position, working 72 hours per pay period on the night shift which includes every other weekend.  The Medical Technologist collects and processes specimens to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease and accurate and timely reporting of test results.  This position also oversees a variety of technical activities and individual section responsibilities to ensure efficient operation of the department.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Reads, analyzes and interprets common scientific and technical journals, manuals and procedures.
  • Provides quality service for all aspects of the pre-analytic phase of test performance (reagent, specimen, quality control materials, products and supply preparation, understanding procedures).
  • Accurately and timely procures and handles specimens.
  • Demonstrates knowledge, skill and accuracy in the operation and maintenance of all department instrumentation and equipment.

Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college in medical technology or clinical laboratory science.
  • One year training/experience in high complexity testing; or equivalent combination or education and experience or qualified as a technologist under laboratory regulations published March 14, 1990.
  • Must meet the CLIA 88 Testing Personnel qualification requirements for a Moderate and High Complexity Testing Laboratory

HOSPICE/PALLIATIVE NURSE PRACTITIONER

Black River Memorial Hospital has an immediate opening for Nurse Practitioner position in our Hospice/Palliative Care department.  This is a part time position working 52 hours per pay period.   The Nurse Practitioner evaluates and treats patients of all ages with severe chronic disease and/or end of life prognosis as well as completes patient assessments, orders and interprets diagnostic tests and completes or prescribes treatments under the supervising Hospice/Palliative Care Physician.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited Nurse Practitioner educational program.
  • Current, valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license from the State of Wisconsin; current board certification or current board certification from ANCC, ANA, or AANP for NP must be achieved within 18 months of hire; and current unrestricted DEA.
  • BLS required
  • Minimum of three years clinical experience required.  Chronic Disease Management, Palliative Care, and/or Hospice experience preferred.
  • Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care within five years of hire. 

Essential Duties Include:

  • Assesses patients of all ages presenting for health care and obtains a personal medical history, appropriate physical examination and completes documentation of same using the hospital’s clinical charting system. Documents or dictates articulate and concise patient care information for the physician and medical record.
  • Instructs and counsels patients and families related to physical/mental health, self-care, medication use and management of symptoms
  • Functions independently as situations arise according to collaborative agreement with supervising physician
  • Provides leadership to staff to ensure appropriate multidisciplinary communication, collaborative working relationships, and a customer-oriented environment responsible to the needs of external/internal customers. Is readily available to visit with staff for consultation, problem solving, and support.
  • Facilitates referrals to community agencies for follow-up care while on Palliative Care or Hospice Services.
  • Completes an in-home Face-to-Face visit, completing appropriate charting after evaluation to ensure patients meet hospice eligibility criteria.

NUTRITION SERVICES ASSISTANT

Black River Memorial Hospital is seeking a full time Nutrition Services Assistant to join our team. The position is benefited working 80 hours per pay period. This position is a combination of day and pm shifts. 

The Nutrition Services Assistant assists in preparation, cooking and serving of food.  This position requires a high school diploma or a general education degree and basic reading and comprehension skills.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists in preparing and portioning food for patients using room service or scheduled meals, contracted food services, employees and hospital special functions following established policies and procedures.
  • Accurately and appropriately transports scheduled patient meal cart to patient floor and delivers patient’s room service trays or late trays directly to the patient’s room.  Collects soiled trays from patient rooms and document amount of food consumed by patient.
  • Performs various cleaning duties per department protocol.  Keeps work area clean and in sanitary condition at all times.
  • Follows safe food handling practices.

MED/SURG REGISTERED NURSE

Black River Memorial Hospital has immediate openings for a Registered Nurse in our Med/Surg department.  This is a full time position working 72 hours per pay period on the night shift and is benefited. 

The Registered Nurse plans and provides comprehensive patient care as well as manages available nursing resources and collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to provide quality, cost effective patient care.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Evaluates patient assessments and responses to interventions and takes appropriate action according to established standards.
  • Accurately and effectively utilizes the patient acuity system to anticipate changes in patient care needs.
  • Provides individualized patient and family focused care throughout the patient’s stay.
  • Initiates effective discharge and referral plans on admission utilizing appropriate hospital and community resources.
  • Participates in patient and family education as evidenced by teaching documentation with appropriate resources.

This position requires a Bachelor’s of Science, Associate’s degree in Nursing, or Diploma RN with a BSN preferred.  The RN position does require a current Wisconsin RN license with a BLS and ACLS certifications within one year of hire.

OBSTETRICS REGISTERED NURSE

ED PHYSICIAN

Practice Specifics:

  • Six 24 hour ED shifts per month
  • Average 11,000 patients through ED and Urgent Care per year- 2/3 ED and 1/3 Urgent Care
  • Joint Commission accreditation level IV trauma center
  • Family Medicine with ED experience or Emergency Medicine
  • Experienced support staff including RN, HUC, PCTs, Advanced Practice Providers, Social Workers, CRNAs, RTs, and Paramedics
  • Radiology, including CT and MR, and labs available on site
  • Hospital is committed to educational aspects of medicine and participates in the preceptorship program through a nearby medical school

HOSPITALIST PHYSICIAN

Black River Memorial Hospital is searching for qualified, BC/BE Hospitalists to join our growing and experienced team. Located along I-94, Black River Falls, Wisconsin, is less than two hours from Minneapolis and Madison, providing access to big city amenities. Our award-winning hospital is a financially strong, progressive, rural primary care facility with Joint Commission accreditation.  Nestled between rolling foothills, Black River Falls sits along the banks of the beautiful Black River providing many outdoor recreational activities.

Hospitalists work with a full care team including ED physicians, general surgeons, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, certified registered nurse anesthetists and medical social workers. Hospitalist physicians may serve on hospital committees and participate in process improvement and documentation projects.
