Mindfulness For Teens

05/16/2018

Black River Memorial Hospital (BRMH) and Together For Jackson County Kids are sponsoring a Mindfulness for Teens workshop. The workshop is designed to help teens understand and manage stress; however, this is not a therapy group. This weeklong session will help teens learn techniques to cope with the many challenges they face every day.

Mindfulness is about being present. It is about noticing the moment between when something happens and how one reacts to it. That moment can help one respond, rather than react. Mindfulness training can help focus attention and concentration. It also helps prevent headaches, sleep disruption, anxiety and even provide pain relief. Anyone can benefit from learning mindfulness for use in everyday life.

The class will run July 9 through July 13, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at BRMH in the Dorothy Halvorson conference room, Black River Falls. Advance registration is required.

The cost to attend is $15.00 and attendance is limited. Need-based scholarships are available. Teenagers in grades 9 through 12 who are interested in learning mindfulness are encouraged to apply.

This workshop is made possible through a grant from the Healthier Wisconsin Partnership Program. Registration deadline is June 15, 2018. To download a registration packet, visit www.brmh.net/mindfulness or call 715-284-3629.
